Homemade Peanut Butter Cups Recipe

TOTAL TIME: Prep: 20 min. + chilling

MAKES: 36 servings

Ingredients

• 1 cup creamy peanut butter, divided
• 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
• 4-1/2 teaspoons butter, softened
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
• 4 milk chocolate candy bars (1.55 ounces each), coarsely chopped
• Colored sprinkles, optional

Directions

1. Combine 1/2 cup peanut butter, confectioners' sugar, butter and salt until smooth.
2. In a microwave, melt chocolate chips, candy bars and remaining peanut butter; stir until smooth.
3. Drop teaspoonful's of chocolate mixture into paper-lined miniature muffin cups. Drop a scant teaspoonful of peanut butter mixture into each cup; top with another teaspoonful of chocolate mixture. If desired, decorate with sprinkles. Refrigerate until set. Store in an airtight container. Yield: 3 dozen

Mary's Sugar Cookies

Makes about 60

1 cup butter, softened
1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar                                

granulated sugar
icing for decoration (optional)

Mix together sugar and butter. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix well. Blend in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Cover and chill for 2 to 3 hours. Heat oven to 375 F. Divide dough in half. Roll each half 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board. Cut into desired shapes; sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until light brown on edges. When cool, decorate with icing, as desired.

Note: Source: This recipe was donated by a reader in 1999. We were later told that this is an old Betty Crocker recipe, and we found it (in slightly altered form) in an out-of-print cookbook called "Betty Crocker's Cooky Book," printed in 1963. A similar recipe is also on Betty Crocker's website.

Christmas Candy Canes

The Christmas Candy Cane originated in Germany about 250 years ago. They started as straight white sugar sticks.

A story says that a choirmaster, in 1670, was worried about the children sitting quietly all through the long Christmas nativity service. So, he gave them something to eat to keep them quiet! As he wanted to remind them of Christmas, he made them into a 'J' shape like a shepherd’s crook, to remind them of the shepherds that visited the baby Jesus at the first Christmas. However, the earliest records of 'candy canes' comes from over 200 years later, so the story, although rather nice, probably isn't true!

Sometime around 1900 the red stripes were added and they were flavored with peppermint or wintergreen.

Sometimes other Christian meanings are giving to the parts of the canes. The 'J' can also mean Jesus. The white of the cane can represent the purity of Jesus Christ and the red stripes are for the blood he shed when he died on the cross. The peppermint flavor can represent the hyssop plant that was used for purifying in the Bible.

Around 1920, Bob McCormack, from Georgia, USA, started making canes for his friends and family. They became more and more popular and he started his own business called Bob's Candies. Bob McCormack's brother-in-law, Gregory Harding Keller, who was a Catholic priest, invented the Keller Machine that made turning straight candy sticks into curved candy canes automatic!

In 2005, Bob's Candies was bought by Farley and Sathers but they still make candy canes!

After trying the product for a week, I would like to say they are very comfortable , no seams digging into my back or side. One of my huge dislikes is an underwire bra that digs . And these have no under wire to dig into skin. Its almost like not wearing a bra at all. Its that comfortable. The straps don't even dig into your shoulders. They come in different sizes to fit your specific size. There are many different colors to choose from. Not only do they sell bras but there is : panties, leggings and  so much more .

I also ran a week long giveaway for the company , which was a huge success. I was able to award just this morning one of my lucky readers her very own Coobie .I know that she will be just as happy with it as I am with mine.  I feel that like me she will go back time and time again once she has tried the product , We are all looking for just a little comfort in our long work days. Whether its a long day at the office or a long day with the kids. No one wants to be in a uncomfortable bra. With straps sliding and digging in your shoulders. I have truly enjoyed working with this company and hope to work with them again on a future project.
